The World Wide Web Turns 21. Why You Should Celebrate.
Did you know that today is the 21st anniversary of the World Wide Web? On August 6, 1991, Tim Berners-Lee launched this site he called:
a wide-area hypermedia information retrieval initiative aiming to give universal access to a large universe of documents.
“Universal access to a large universe of documents.” Sir Tim has a knack for understatement, eh?
Of course, Tim Berners-Lee’s WWW Project existed long before Google, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Yahoo, Amazon, eBay, and all the rest. To say nothing of mobile — though the site works just fine like that, too:
Clearly, the web has evolved into something far more than Berners-Lee likely imagined. But, at the same time, think about how young the web is. If it were a person, we’d only just now be able to buy it a beer (in the U.S.). It might still be in college. Or it might be out looking for a job .
I have said many times that the Internet is still in its cave-painting days . Today’s anniversary might just remind you exactly how young the Internet is.
Yes, you should be working to build your Internet marketing . Yes, you should build a blog . And you should also remember that you and your business aren’t getting any younger — just like the web.
