SoLoMo in Practice (Small Business E-commerce Link Digest)
SoLoMo (the social, mobile, local web) or SoLoMoPho (same thing, only putting more emphasis on photos), exists. In force. I hate the term. It’s really kind of silly. I prefer to call it the Transparent Web (so common, it’s always around you, but not in the way) and did a whole presentation on its meaning
for a trade group a few days back.
Here’s this week’s evidence of what’s happening with it, whether you call it SoLoMo, SoLoMoPho or the Transparent Web and who’s getting the most value from it:
- Mashable reports Ben & Jerry’s wil run fans’ Instagram photos in local ads , bringing photos, local marketing and social (Instagram) together.
- Google knows that social, local and mobile are key to the web’s future. Happily, they’re sharing that knowledge, introducing targeting improvements to help more marketers “get local” for holidays
- I looked at President Obama’s winning campaign on this week’s podcast , noting it was likely the most social, local, mobile political campaign in history. Ars Technica peeks under the hood to see how they did it .
- Search Engine Land reports that the least visual social network Twitter will include top photos, videos & instant previews in its search results, casting aside that whole “least visual” label.
- Not to be outdone, TechCrunch says Facebook is finally launching a “Share” button for consumers’ mobile feed .
- And, finally, if you want to get more social in your marketing, Marketing Pilgrim offers 3 social media tricks to improving your online reputation . I’d also recommend my look this past week at community building and what community really looks like .
Have a great weekend, Big Thinkers . See you back here next week.
